{"id":6264,"date":"2008-04-28T10:55:11","date_gmt":"2008-04-28T15:55:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epictales.org\/treskillard\/2008\/04\/28\/michael_hyatt_explains_how_they_choose_w\/"},"modified":"2008-04-28T10:55:11","modified_gmt":"2008-04-28T15:55:11","slug":"michael_hyatt_explains_how_they_choose_w","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.epictales.org\/treskillard\/2008\/04\/28\/michael_hyatt_explains_how_they_choose_w\/","title":{"rendered":"Michael Hyatt Explains How Thomas Nelson Chooses Which Books to Publish"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In continuing the discussion<\/strong> about the major changes going on over at Thomas Nelson Publishers, <strong>Michael Hyatt<\/strong> explains in his latest post how they choose which books to publish.<\/p>\n<p>If you are an aspiring Christian author, you <strong><em>NEED<\/em><\/strong> to <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelhyatt.com\/fromwhereisit\/2008\/04\/choosing-which.html\">read his post<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Essentially Thomas Nelson categorizes all potential books<\/strong> into one of these four categories:<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" cellpadding=\"3\">\n<tr>\n<td width=\"33%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"33%\"><center><br \/>Has Brand Equity<\/p>\n<p><\/center><\/td>\n<td width=\"33%\"><center><br \/>No Brand Equity<\/p>\n<p><\/center><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"33%\">Book Has Competitive Advantage<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"33%\"><center><\/p>\n<h3>A<\/h3>\n<p><\/center><\/td>\n<td width=\"33%\"><center><\/p>\n<h3>B<\/h3>\n<p><\/center><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"33%\">No Competitive Advantage<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"33%\"><center><\/p>\n<h3>C<\/h3>\n<p><\/center><\/td>\n<td width=\"33%\"><center><\/p>\n<h3>D<\/h3>\n<p><\/center><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p><strong>This means they are dropping<\/strong> out all &#8220;<strong>C<\/strong>&#8221; and &#8220;<strong>D<\/strong>&#8221; titles from consideration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To me, this is the opposite<\/strong> of what I expected, because it means that authors who have an established brand in the marketplace (i.e. published authors) will <strong>not be published<\/strong> if their book does not have a competitive advantage over rivals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I expected<\/strong> them to drop &#8220;<strong>B<\/strong>&#8221; and &#8220;<strong>D<\/strong>&#8221; titles.
