{"id":6131,"date":"2009-05-18T10:12:06","date_gmt":"2009-05-18T15:12:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epictales.org\/treskillard\/2009\/05\/18\/was_merlin_scottish\/"},"modified":"2009-05-18T10:12:06","modified_gmt":"2009-05-18T15:12:06","slug":"was_merlin_scottish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.epictales.org\/treskillard\/2009\/05\/18\/was_merlin_scottish\/","title":{"rendered":"Was Merlin Scottish?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Apparently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/newstopics\/politics\/scotland\/5339235\/Merlin-provokes-diplomatic-row-after-being-named-a-Scot.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the people of Glasgow<\/a> think he is.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/7\/75\/View_of_Glasgow_from_Queens_Park.jpg\/250px-View_of_Glasgow_from_Queens_Park.jpg\" alt=\"Glasgow, Scotland\" title=\"Glasgow, Scotland\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p><strong>Despite the fact that a Merlin (<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Myrddin_Wyllt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Myrddin Wyllt<\/a>) <em>has<\/em> been associated with Scotland<\/strong>, can anyone explain to me how the city of Glasgow can call Merlin a &#8220;Famous Glaswegian&#8221; when Merlin predates the city of Glasgow?<\/p>\n<p>The city, as they rightly profess, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/St._Kentigern\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was founded by St. Kentigern in the early 600&#8217;s<\/a><\/strong>. The fact that this is well after Merlin supposedly lived seems to have escaped them.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe the Glaswegians are the sons of Merlin, and not the other way around.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The interesting thing<\/strong> about this is that in <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/epictales.org\/HammerAndStone.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">my book<\/a><\/strong>, I bring together (fictitiously) the legends of St. Kentigern and Merlin, showing how the two were confused.
