If you haven&#8217;t read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epictales.org\/treskillard\/2010\/11\/01\/stephen-lawhead-s-the-skin-map-day-1\">Day 1<\/a>, don&#8217;t miss it,<\/strong> for it contains <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epictales.org\/treskillard\/2010\/11\/01\/stephen-lawhead-s-the-skin-map-day-1\">RIDDLE #1<\/a><\/strong> For the Stephen Lawhead autographed <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/1595548041\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">THE SKIN MAP<\/a><\/strong> give-away!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Just to recap,<\/strong> I spent an incredible weekend with Stephen in early October at the Laity Lodge Writer&#8217;s Retreat. As part of that, I had him sign an extra copy of The Skin Map that I AM GIVING AWAY AS PART OF THE BLOG TOUR!  <\/p>\n<p>Here are the rules to win the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stephenlawhead.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stephen Lawhead<\/a><\/strong> signed copy of The Skin Map, book one of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebrightempires.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Bright Empires<\/a><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>You must visit my blog posts<\/strong> for all three days of the tour and make some sort of meaningful comment toward the discussion of that day.<\/li>\n<li><strong>You must solve each of the riddles<\/strong>, and after day 3, provide me the answers through this <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epictales.org\/treskillard\/contact\/\">Contact Form<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Note &#8230; do not give your answers in a comment or others will see!<\/li>\n<li><strong>If more than one person<\/strong> fulfills the requirements, I will hold a drawing to determine the winner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note #1: The riddles are going to get progressively harder<\/strong>, with Day Three being VERY HARD. BUT &#8230; if you already own a copy, and want <em>this <\/em>autographed copy, I would request that you hold a contest of your own to give away your unsigned extra copy after you win.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note #3: Although the riddles have to do with the book<\/strong>, you can solve it without owning the book by using Google Books.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But first my own review<\/strong>, and then at the very bottom of this post you will find the DAY TWO RIDDLE:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s my schedule<\/strong>&#8230;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.epictales.org\/treskillard\/2010\/11\/01\/stephen-lawhead-s-the-skin-map-day-1\">Day One: The Plot<\/a> \/ Day Two: The Characters \/ Day Three: The Craft.<\/p>\n<h3>DAY TWO&#8230;THE CHARACTERS:<\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\" border=\"1\" cellpadding=\"6\">\n<tr>\n<th>Kit Livingstone<\/th>\n<td>The main character, he lives a dull existence in London until he meets&#8230;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>Cosimo Livingstone<\/th>\n<td>Kit&#8217;s great-grandfather who disappeared one day while going to the store.  He is a time-traveling adventurer who is seeking the ultimate answers to the universe.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>Sir Henry Fayth<\/th>\n<td>He is one of Cosimo&#8217;s partners.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>Lady Fayth<\/th>\n<td>Sir Henry&#8217;s snobbish niece, she sort of befriends Kit and helps him in his quest.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>Giles<\/th>\n<td>A servant of Sir Henry, he and Kit become friends.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>Wilhelmina<\/th>\n<td>Kit&#8217;s girlfriend, who ends up lost in time. She is fast, efficient, and knows how to make an excellent cup of coffee!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>Etzel<\/th>\n<td>The baker who finds and befriends Wilhelmina, they open up a shop together.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>Herr Arnostovi<\/th>\n<td>The man who owns the building Etzel and Wilhelmina rent, he ends up going into business with them.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>Arthur Flinders-Petrie<\/th>\n<td>The ultimate time and space traveler, he is the man whom everyone else is after, in one way or another, hint, hint!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>Xian-Li<\/th>\n<td>The woman whom Arthur marries, her life becomes a key point in the plot.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>Lord Burleigh<\/th>\n<td>Hiss!  Yes, the villain of the novel.  His machinations cause quite the problems for Kit and company.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p>Is this the entire cast from the book?  Not by a long shot, but it is a good overview.<\/p>\n<h3>MY THOUGHTS ON THE CHARACTERS AND CHARACTERIZATION:<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Stephen-R-Lawhead\/84503526872?v=wall&amp;ref=ts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"goleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.stephenlawhead.com\/images\/stories\/home\/lawhead.jpg?w=1200\" alt=\"Stephen Lawhead\" title=\"Stephen Lawhead\" \/><\/a><strong>Stephen, in my opinion, has done a great job<\/strong> creating and bringing to life the characters in The Skin Map.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>No, we don&#8217;t get<\/strong> long pages of inner-turmoil-what-am-i-thinking-monologue, but then, these books aren&#8217;t in the Literature section of the bookstore, are they?<\/p>\n<p><strong>What we do get<\/strong> is a suspense-filled novel with characters in motion who grow, learn, and adapt in realistic ways to the strange events happening to them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In my opinion<\/strong>, the cast of characters has just begun to be introduced. What strange new worlds will Kit, Mina, and Giles visit?  What places and times?  What odd people will they meet on their journey?  I can only imagine in my anticipation.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>The good news?<\/strong>  Stephen has already finished his entire first draft of THE BONE HOUSE and submitted it to the publisher!  Even though we still need to wait until next fall, there is no fear of a late publishing schedule.<\/p>\n<p><strong>My recommendation?
