The Advent Conspiracy!

The Advent Conspiracy

Exactly one year and three days ago, we installed our new well system. It had been 22 days without water in the house, and we learned a lot of lessons.

One of those lessons was to really celebrate Advent. Ever since we were married, my wife and I have celebrated Advent, but last year we had a different perspective as the whole family went without the convenience of running water. It gave us a renewed sense of thankfulness for all the blessings we have.

The amazing thing is that God brought to our attention a godly movement called “The Advent Conspiracy“.

What is it about? It is about spending less money on ourselves and more for those that are suffering around the world. In particular, the Advent Conspiracy encourages people to:

  • Worship Fully
  • Spend Less
  • Give More
  • Love All

As part of this, they encourage people to give money toward ministries that help provide clean water for poor communities around the world.

Yes, Advent and water.

Wow. God was really speaking to us. There we were, celebrating Advent without water, and God was calling us to open our eyes to the needs of the world.

So I am appealing to everyone today to check out The Advent Conspiracy website where they explain all this.

The Advent Conspiracy

Get involved! Not only can we prepare our hearts to receive God’s Living Water, but we can share a cup of water in Christ’s name.

They don’t accept any money themselves, but they encourage people to give, particularly to Living Water International, a Christian ministry providing fresh water sources all around the world.

If anyone is interested, you can read the two meditations I wrote last year during our water crisis:

  1. Thanks for the link. I agree totally with the four points:

    Worship Fully
    Spend Less
    Give More
    Love All

Those are good reminders…how easily worldly thinking entraps us, and makes us slaves to our own selfishness.

  2. It seems so long ago we were without water, when it was just last year.

The comforts of the world dull us into not realizing how other people live and the suffering they have. May God open our eyes.
